Revenues for Delaware igaming bounced up 70% in the month of June 2014. Total revenues were 187,944 dollars. The news for online poker in the state was not nearly as good. Revenue fell 55%, down to only 25,607 dollars. This is the lowest point for online poker since it began in Delaware in November 2013. Some put the blame on summer months and increased outdoor activities. The World Series of Poker held in Las Vegas may have contributed to the down turn, due to poker players flocking to Nevada to take part in the tournament.
In the Uk, on October first, the Gambling Act will be enacted. Online gambling websites that wish to operate in the UK will be required to obtain a remote gambling license from the country’s gambling commission. Those wishing to qualify must not derive no more than 3% of their income from grey markets. This would prompt many online companies to exit grey markets. The UK represents 8 % of the online gambling, at 2.5 billion pounds, 329 million pounds coming from online poker.
2007 WSOP winner Jerry Yang has put the watch awarded to him up for auction on Ebay.So far the bidding is at 3,550 dollars. Yang hopes the price will at least reach the 9,000 original price for the watch. Yang won 8.25 million dollars in 2007. Since that time Yang has found himself in trouble with the IRS for back taxes. He currently owes them between 150,000 to 170,000 thousand dollars. Since his big win, Yang has only managed 187,000 dollars in poker tournament winnings. But he does own the Pocket 8’s Sushi Bar & Grill, which Yang says is doing well.
When New Jersey opened its first online gambling site in November 2013, it was hoped it would give a bump to the state’s sagging gambling industry. But so far, projected earnings have not lived up to forecasts. The state continues to have serious problems in all areas of gambling venues. New Jersey may lose four of its twelve original land based casinos.
Trump Plaza is set to close, despite them having an online alliance with industry giant, Betfair. The collaboration produced only 3.7 million dollars in revenue this year. When Trump Plaza closes in September, Betfair will have to retain a new land based casino partner to be able to have an online gambling site in New Jersey.
